  This place uses to be so nice. The menu could do with an revamp and the last time I visited I waited 55 minutes from the time I ordered my food to the time I got it. By that time it was already cold. I don't know if they were just understaffed that day or if their standard is dropping. But if it was a staffing problem and they know food wasn't going to be served in a timely manner the ideal thing to do would be to inform customers before they order just in case (like me) they didn't have much time to spare.

  I went for a quick snack and was impressed by the nice and cozy environment. The service was also very good. I bought a strawberry scone and a carrot cake. Unfortunately the scone was very dry and I could hardly taste the strawberry; and the cake was slightly burnt at the bottom.

  Funny thing happened. It was a bit crowded one evening. My husband and I managed to get a table, but there was a cleaning rag on it. We sat there anyway and told the guy who was helping us, who looked embarrassed and took it away. 10 minutes later a lady came up to us and admonished us for stealing her table even though she left her scarf on it. That was absurd and I think she went to another table that opened up. Needless to say, seating is limited and the choosing of a table is a free for all. The sandwiches are delightfully homey, the soup is Trini (when available), breakfast is all day, and the pizza should be taken off the menu. Also on offer are nice desserts, hummus , bottles of pepper sauce for purchase and unusual breads. It's a quaint enough spot to frequent before or after the movie.

  I usually have a good experience at Maria's despite what other people had to say. However, today I am sorry to say that Maria's will no longer be getting my money. Today was a busy day for breakfast and I arranged to meet a friend there so I headed toward a free table and was about to sit when the hostess, I presume, uses her arm to slightly nudge me aside and says "no no. We are preparing these seat for them." I turn slightly to see a group of older women so I waited for a few moments but the hostess has already turned her back to me and is offering her hospitality to the group. How hard was it for her to say "I will be with you shortly."? Yes a larger group is probably worth more than 1 person to a business but no need to make someone feel it. A few words cost nothing. I will no longer be recommending Maria's Bakery Southpark to anyone.
